Huron Valley Swim Club leads after first day of WISC, plus more community sports news and notes

Huron Valley Swim Club scored 1,547.5 points to take a sizable lead after Monday's first day of the 51st annual Washtenaw Interclub Swimming Championships.
The Dexter Community Aquatic Club sits in second place with 731 points and Travis Pointe Country Club is third with 678 points.
Huron Valley has won 36 consecutive team titles in the annual event, which draws thousands of local swimmers and divers in various age groups from 18 area swim clubs.
Monday's competitions included 13-and-over swimming at Huron Valley and 8-under diving at Racquet Club.
WISC meets continue through Thursday at various locations. Swim meets all start at 9 a.m. and diving at 2 p.m.
Tuesday: 11-12 diving at Travis Pointe; 9-10 swimming at Racquet Club.
Wednesday: 13-up diving at Huron Valley, 8-under swimming at Racquet Club.
Thursday: 9-10 diving at Georgetown Country Club, 11-12 swimming at Saline High School.
GOLF
University of Michigan Golf Course Open to the Public
All Washtenaw County residents can play the University of Michigan Golf Course on Wednesday, July 27, and Wednesday, Aug. 17. Typically, the course requires a student, employee or alumnus of the university to be part of every reservation. Golfers will be asked to present a driver's license to confirm Washtenaw County residence. The cost is $40 to walk or $53 with a cart. Reservations will be accepted up to seven days in advance by calling 734-615-4653.
BASEBALL
EMU Baseball Tigers Camp
The Eastern Michigan baseball team and coach Jay Alexander are once again teaming up with Detroit Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones for the EMU Baseball Tigers Camp on Aug. 3-4. The camp is designed to teach baseball fundamentals such as hitting, pitching, fielding, catching and base running. The camp will feature stations and drill work for both sessions. Current Detroit Tigers Alex Avila, Brennan Boesch and Austin Jackson are expected to make special appearances. For more information, visit EMUEagles.com.
RUNS
Running the Rails
Running the Rails is back for its 24th year on Aug. 21 and will include a 10K run, 5K run or walk and 1/2-mile kids fun run. All races are chip timed, with the 5K and 10K on USATF-certified courses. Skyline High School
Skyline High School’s athletic medicine program is hosting its annual fundraising event on July 26-28 from 6-8 p.m. Middle and high school students can receive an athletic physical for $25.
Pioneer High School
Athletic physicals are available from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the Pioneer High School auxiliary gym. Cost is $25. Fall athletes can also register for sport participation at the same time. Cost of the first sport is $150, plus a $30 athletic benefit fee. Football practice begins Aug. 8 and other fall sports begin Aug. 10.
TENNIS
City Tennis Tournaments
Registration for the 2011 Ann Arbor City Tennis Tournament continues. The men’s and women’s doubles tournaments are July 29-31 and the juniors singles tournament is July 28-29. During the final day of the doubles event, the AAACTA will hold a town tennis celebration that features kids clinics and free food. Visit aaacta.org to register and for more information.
VOLLEYBALL
Fall Ball Sign Up
Registration is ongoing for Ann Arbor Rec & Ed’s fall coed youth volleyball league. For boys and girls entering grades 4-9 for the 2011-12 school year, this league is designed to develop skills and have fun. There are no cuts or tryouts. Online registration is available at www.aareced.com. Save $10 if you register by Aug 25. Practices begin in early October, games begin Oct, 15 and run through mid-December. Could we get a link for WISC results?

1) Shame that WISC swimmng is reduced to a mention in the sports blotter 2) HVSC leading is hardly news/interesting. They are like 6 times the size of any other club (on average) and size counts -especialy when unlimited numbers or relay teams can score). When the first placed team for 30ish years has more than twice the number of points than the team in second position after half a day of competition, you have to question if the playing field is level.......... 3) Interested to see the actual results 4) Interested to know how many top 5 places were score by each club 5) You might be interested to learn who was the last champion before HVSC
