The University of Michigan softball team scored five runs in the second and sixth innings to beat Bowling Green 12-2 in a mercy-rule shortened game at Alumni Field.

The Wolverines (22-9) won their fifth consecutive game.

Left fielder Nicole Sappingfield hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning for her first home run of the season. She finished 2-for-3 with five RBIs.

Shortstop Amy Knapp hit her third home run of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning. She finished 1-for-4.

Sara Driesenga earned the victory, allowing one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts in six innings.

Softball

Eastern Michigan 10-13, Oakland 2-0 (5) — Second baseman Nellie Coquillard and catcher Sarah Gerber hit home runs in the nightcap of the Eagles' mercy-rule sweep of the Golden Grizzlies. Jenna Ignowski earned the victory in the first game for the Eagles (11-17), allowing one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Lindsay Rich allowed one hit with five strikeouts in five innings to win the second game.
