Elise Swartout swinging into Golf Association of Michigan Championship
Capping off a successful summer on the golf course, Elise Swartout, an Ann Arbor-native and Pioneer High School graduate, will compete at the Golf Association of Michigan Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Battle Creek Country Club in Battle Creek.
This week, Swartout, a soon-to-be senior at Western Michigan University, has been fine-tuning her game at Miles of Golf just as she does leading up to every summer competition.“I think I’m just going to treat it as any other tournament,” said Swartout, who noted that she’s been especially relaxed on the links this summer. “I think I’m just going to try to take that same mental state and take it to this next tournament.”
That approach appears to be working. Already this month, Swartout placed third at the Michigan PGA Women’s Open, where she shot a career-best three-day total of 213. Most recently, at the Atlas Cup last weekend she helped the public team topple the private team 15.5-8.5.
Swartout hopes to add to her resume on Monday, when she tees off at 8:30 a.m. in Battle Creek.
“It’s nice playing in these summer tournaments,” said Swartout, who ultimately has the upcoming campaign for the WMU Broncos on her horizon. “Yeah, you want to do well, but it’s really about the preparation for the upcoming [collegiate] season.”
