Big Ten preview: A look at the Illinois Fighting Illini

By Pete Bigelow

On Tuesday, we provided a refresher course on the Iowa Hawkeyes. In today's Big Ten preview, we break down a team that needs no introduction.

In fact, Michigan fans are still trying to forget the team's last game against the Juice Williams-led Illinois juggernaut.

In their last meeting, Williams, the team's dynamic quarterback, accounted for 431 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in a 45-20 Illinois victory. The yardage mark was an all-time record for an individual player at Michigan Stadium.

Playing against opponents other than the Wolverines, though, Williams wasn't as prolific. For his career, he's only completed 52 percent of his passes, and must improve for Illinois to move beyond last season's disappointing 5-7 mark, writes AnnArbor.com football reporter Dave Birkett.

Williams will have help. In wide receiver Arrelious Benn, he's got perhaps the top receiver in the country. Getting Benn involved in the offense any way possible is one of coach Ron Zook's top goals.

Where will it all net out for the Illini? Last year, Illinois lost three games it should have won, and that's enough to concern Birkett about Zook's game-day coaching. But reporter Michael Rothstein thinks the Illini are too talented to not be in the Big Ten title hunt. The pair duke it out in today's edition of "For Argument's Sake."
