The coaching carousel continues to turn.

One day after Kevin Borseth resigned as women’s basketball coach at Michigan to take over at Wisconsin-Green Bay, Eastern Michigan announced that its women’s basketball coach, AnnMarie Gilbert, will also resign effective Friday.

“I would like to thank AnnMarie for the success she has brought the program,” EMU athletic director Derrick Gragg said in a statement. “AnnMarie has worked hard to help our student athletes succeed, and I wish her well in her future endeavors.”

Gilbert led the Eagles to a Mid-American Tournament division title, a MAC Tournament championship and the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history this season. In five years, Gilbert compiled a 94-64 record in Ypsilanti.

She also brought on an ongoing NCAA investigation after alleged violations surrounding practice times, voluntary workouts, coaches' participation in voluntary workouts and recruits’ participation in open gym times during the 2009-10 season.

EMU self-reported those violations in September 2010 and suspended Gilbert for 30 days without pay. When the NCAA started its investigation in August 2011, its Notice of Inquiry said the enforcement team expected to complete the process by October of that year.

In the release, Gragg said the search for a replacement would begin immediately.

Before joining Eastern, Gilbert spent five years as an assistant coach at Michigan State and was the head coach at Oberlin College for eight years.
