Picture a romantic French Bistro and you have a sense of the ambience at The Earle, a restaurant located in a dark, expansive space down a flight of stairs that specializes in French and Italian country cuisine. Heavy bar traffic to the restaurant's wine bar makes high customer traffic. The Earle hosts weekly happy hours from 5:00 to 8:00, with discounts on food and drink. The wine list is so expansive it could fill a book, with wines available by the glass, and bottles ranging from $20 to $200. The Earle has won The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence every year from 1990 to 2008. Each entree is adorned with a unique sauce. Beef tenderloin is served with a mushroom and tarragon sauce; sea scallops are beneath a mushroom and garlic, sherry and cream sauce. In addition to beef, chicken and fish, there are a variety of pastas.
HAPPY HOUR - In the Wine Bar only: Mon.-Fri., 5-6:30p.m., bowl of steamed Mussels Provencale starting at $2.75 per person; and Mon.-Fri., 5-8 p.m., 20% off all soups, salads, appetizers, pastas and most beverages by the glass.
