Whether it’s lunch time, dinner time, or post-dinner time, you can usually find a sizable crowd of students and other South University denizens at China Gate. The atmosphere is minimal and the space is sometimes cramped, but the menu features a vast array of authentic Chinese (Szechuan, Hunan, or Peking), “Americanized” Chinese, and even Vietnamese dishes. Standbys such as General Tso’s chicken and crab cheese rangoons are always available, but the more adventurous may wish to try other creations including beef pho or shrimp stuffed eggplant. China Gate's Chef Jan has over 40 years experience. He is the winner of the silver medal in the 2004 Culinary Olympics, and the gold medal winner of the 2001 and 2003 International Professional Culinary Competition.
