A fire caused heavy damage to a detached garage in Ypsilanti Township Sunday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 12:40 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Eugene Street. Firefighters were at the scene for about two hours, said Captain Dave Crescio of the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department.

The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damages to the $15,000 structure, according to the report. No surrounding property was damaged.

Crescio said the property owner was not home at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.

The cause has not been determined, and the fire marshal is investigating, Crescio said. Additional information was not available.

This is the second detached garage fire in a week in Ypsilanti Township. A detached garage at 1355 Destoso was destroyed by a fire last week. That fire is being investigated as an arson.
