Ypsilanti school board ratifies contract with administrators union
Principals and administrators at Ypsilanti Public Schools will see a 9.3 percent wage reduction for the 2012-13 academic year.
The Board of Education approved a one-year contract with the Ypsilanti Principals and Administrators Association at Monday’s regular board meeting.
School officials reached a tentative agreement with union leaders on Aug. 5. The full union membership did not vote on the contract until Aug. 27.
The approved contract also will reduce union employees' benefits, placing a $13,000 hard cap on the district's contribution for all dental, vision, medical, prescription and life insurance coverage.
The Ypsilanti Educators Association agreed to the same $13,000 cap on benefits when its members approved their new contract earlier this year. The YEA also took a 10 percent pay cut and a 12.3 percent reduction to its salary scale.
