Ypsilanti Heritage Festival to hold auditions for 'YpsiFest Idol'
The Ypsilanti Heritage Festival is bringing its version of "American Idol" to Riverside Park, and festival organizers are looking for talent.
Auditions for “YpsiFest Idol” will be held Saturday, June 4, at the First United Methodist Church on 209 Washtenaw Rd.
“YpsiFest Idol” is a new event for the festival this year and will give local singers as young as 5 a chance to show off their musical talents, said Wendy Klinge, treasurer of the festival committee.
Auditions will be held in three parts, divided by age groups: ages 5 to 13 years will perform from noon to 2 p.m.; 14 to 20 years old from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; and 21 years and over from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Contestants are asked to have a 2-minute song prepared prior to the audition.
While the date for pre-registration has passed (May 25), those who wish to participate may still register on the day of auditions for a fee of $15. The application form can be found on the festival website.
After the auditions, 12 finalists from each group will be chosen to perform at the festival on Saturday, August 20, at Riverside Park. Finalists and winners will be selected with the help of local judges, who will evaluate the contestants on their musical performances.
From each age group, three winners will be selected and awarded with prizes. Prizes for the winners have not yet been decided, and will depend on the number of contestants at the auditions, Klinge said.
