Three men arrested in connection with attempted home invasion in Ypsilanti Township

By Heather Lockwood

Two Ypsilanti Township men and one Canton Township man have been arrested in connection with an attempted home invasion in Ypsilanti Township today.

The men — an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old, both of Ypsilanti Township, and an 18-year-old Canton Township resident — are accused of throwing a large object through a rear window of the residence in the 1000 block of Wismer Street, east of Dorothy Street, about 3:14 a.m.

The noise woke the people who were home and asleep at the time, police said in the summary.

The residents "confronted several suspects at the rear of the residence" and then immediately called 911 and gave a description of the men, according to the summary.

The men did not enter the home, according to the summary.

Responding deputies found a vehicle with several people in it parked several blocks away from the home, the summary said. Deputies found incriminating evidence inside the vehicle, the summary said.

The suspects were arrested and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case is to be turned over to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office for review, according to the summary.

No further details were immediately available.

Yes! This is a good news story, although I'm sure it was frightening to the residents. It's amazing to me that the residents were composed enough to get a good description of the suspects. No one was hurt and the suspects are in jail. Great job, Washtenaw County deputies!

Good catch, Ypsilanti Deputies! I guess some kids don't have anything else to do.

If they go to prison that is. There's been several stories of those caught at or near crime scenes not going to jail....

Wow. These guys seem to be novices. Everybody knows you don't break into a house when somebody is inside. That's first degree home invasion. Smashing a window at night is sure to wake somebody up as well. Amateurs. I'm sure they'll get some tips from the pros in prison and they'll be back at it in a few years.

I'd say in a few months or less. They won't get much time if any for this crime. Probably probation and they'll be right back at it.
