An Ypsilanti resident notified the police Wednesday night after seeing the graffiti.

The Ypsilanti Police Department said no further details were immediately available about the incident or which businesses were affected.

This is the second act of vandalism to occur in the Ypsilanti area in the past two weeks.

Earlier this month, 50 headstones were vandalized at the Highland Cemetery located at at 943 N. River St.

Several headstones were tipped over, however, there was no permanent damage to any marker that was disturbed. Trash also was strewn across some of the headstones.

Police said the incident still is under investigation and no suspects have been identified.

This is really unfortunate for everyone who frequents the Depot Town area. I hope that the vandalism isn't too costly to the business owners and residents.

"This is the second act of vandalism to occur in the Ypsilanti area in the past two weeks." Oh no...I'm sure there is a TON more vandalism...it just doesn't get reported on. This was probably something pretty major.

Occurrences like this one are why citizens should be demanding restored police dept. staffing. More officers on per shift will not always prevent things like this, but they can and do prevent some and often keep an isolated incident from turning into a multi-location problem. When everyone on a shift is needed for calls, nobody's left to patrol on foot or in a vehicle. The shift from a proactive dept. to a purely reactive one is in no one's best interests.

First of all I want to thank all of YPD, they are a good police department. Second, they are very much overworked. Third, we have a city government that can't figure out how to run a city. Does anyone know how I can find out how much it costs us tax payers for City Government alone, not including YPD or YFD. I'm talking about all salaries in city hall and the cost of city hall. The way I look at it is Ypsi is in such bad shape we should only have a mayor and a secretary working out of a little shack.

So other than funding additional officers by writing speeding tickets, any ideas for how to fund a restoration to our previous levels of police staffing?

If he cop gave two tckets out per shift it would pay for there salary. Going down Michigan ave its not hard to find people speeding. You pay for the cops salary and you reduce the number of speeder. Win WIn.
