Suspect runs after rolling over stolen vehicle on Ann Arbor freeway

By Kyle Feldscher

Someone stole a vehicle, rolled it over on the ramp from northbound U.S. 23 to Washtenaw Avenue on the east side of Ann Arbor and fled the scene Tuesday morning, police said.

Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Thompson said one person driving a stolen vehicle ran away from a rollover crash at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday at northbound U.S. 23 and Washtenaw Avenue. State police troopers recovered the vehicle and turned it over to the Ypsilanti Police Department. Thompson said the vehicle was stolen from Ypsilanti.

No suspect description was immediately available as the suspect fled from the crash before troopers arrived.

Ypsilanti police Detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts said the vehicle was a 1996 Subaru Legacy. The vehicle was stolen between 10 p.m. Monday and 12:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Maple Street, Eberts said.

Police were continuing to investigate the incident and were beginning to process the vehicle for fingerprints Tuesday afternoon, Eberts said.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Ypsilanti Police Department at 734-483-9510.

Does area depravity know no bounds whatsoever? Stealing a Subaru? What's next, contributing to the delinquency of an Audi? Corrupting a Volvo? Illicit congress with a Beetle?

Sounds like you and other drivers set your car clocks ahead before this car theft took place; I didn't set mine ahead until this afternoon. I always set home clocks ahead hours before DST begins.

@ Kyle, it was 10:00 am for sure, so you might want to double check that because an ambulance with lights on passed me southbound right when I was merging, and a State trooper with his gumball flashing passed me southboundof the highway going south on 23 between Geddes Road and the Huron River, so it would seem like they were sent around 10, jus sayin. It also looked like I was passing by shortly after the accident, there were two cars stopping or stopped on the exit ramp from which the vehicle rolled over. Maybe, the MSP sprungan additional hour to far forward Sunday morning? Also, the Arborland clock from my vantage point was finally correct. Needless to say, amazing that person was able to walk away.

treetown: The initial information I had was that this occurred at about 10 a.m. However, the time Sgt. Thompson could confirm police were sent to the scene was 10:49 a.m. I understand the dissonance there. That may not be the time the crash happened, but that's when they were sent.

Yes, he has Judy. He's also been very helpful in getting out information and communicating with me, which is very much appreciated.

Ahhh, that makes sense as to why the MSP were all over the ramp this morning.
