School will start in consolidated Ypsilanti district without union contracts for teachers

Teachers in Ypsilanti Community Schools will begin this school year without union contracts, according to a report from WEMU.
The first day of classes for the newly consolidated district is Sept. 3. When the two former districts—Ypsilanti and Willow Run—were dissolved, the unions representing staff in the district were also disbanded.
YCS is ready to negotiate union contracts with both its teachers and professional staff once a bargaining team is in place, WEMU reported.

Get over it. When transportation consolidated? They went in without a contract as well. Guess what? 3 years later and WISD is still dragging their feet. Good luck teachers you won't see a contract for a long time. May have to do what Dexter did. Form your own.

I see the teacher basher hit the first post on this article. Keep bashing and cutting taxes, my friend, and you will see how fast the US goes down the drain. We are circling the drain now. We will be third world in the next generation if we don't wake up.

Then lets increase taxes and raise tuitions, not that it will help any. We are already in the drain and have been for years.

I don't understand... How will the teachers ever provide a quality education without their gang negotiating for better parking spots and dental coverage? I guess they'll have to rely on books and hard work for a couple weeks, just to be safe.

I hate to say it, but I could not agree more. With a 55% graduation rate? And WR is the one who has this percentage, going to be one long year. Even WISD is sending a racial tolerance team to help YCS. They are going to realize that the teachers don't need this, they need support to help them thru a lot of turmoil that will occur when you put two schools together and mix em up. Good luck YCS. You don't need racial tolerance, you need a police force.

I am still shocked and amazed by all of this "teachers are evil" garbage. "rRely on books and hard work?" It's obvious that you have never taught before and have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. It's comments and thoughts like this that are driving quality teachers out of the district and replacing them with ones that are more qualified to keep costs down that raise the quality of education. The only thing that will come out of keeping the union out of the new YCS is that even more teachers will leave. And that, coupled with the mass exodus of students (and their tax dollars) can only lead to the doom of the new district before it even begins.
