Police have released the name of a man who died in a crash in Ypsilanti Township earlier this month.

Leroy John Bemis, 47, of Ypsilanti Township, died Aug. 12 after his truck hit a car at the intersection of Grove and Bridge roads and rolled over several times, throwing him from the vehicle, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department spokesman Derrick Jackson said.

Bemis was driving his 2003 Ford pickup truck west on Grove Road above the speed limit and swerving at about 7 a.m. when the truck sideswiped a 2007 Honda CRV, which was stopped at the intersection, Jackson said.

Jackson said Bemis' truck was filled with scrap metal and items like old chairs. The debris was strewn across the roadway, forcing it to be closed for several hours.
