Police dog tracks robbery suspect to apartment
A 24-year-old Ypsilanti man was tracked to his apartment by a police dog after he was accused of pulling a knife on two men and trying to rob them Monday night.
The man was arrested and is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail awaiting arraignment on two counts of attempted armed robbery, said Sgt. Tom Eberts of the Ypsilanti Police Department.
Officers were called to the area of Jarvis and Lowell streets in Ypsilanti around 10:40 p.m. after receiving reports of two separate robberies. Police said the 24-year-old man attempted to rob a 37-year-old man and a 19-year-old man walking in the area within a few minutes. None of the men knew the others.
The robberies were unsuccessful because one man refused to give the suspect anything and the other man didn't have anything to give, Eberts said.
The 24-year-old fled to a nearby apartment. An Ann Arbor police dog tracked the man there and he was taken into custody, Eberts said. The Eastern Michigan University Police Department assisted in the arrest.
The man was expected to be arraigned Tuesday or Wednesday, police said.

I had a friend who had two Belgian sheperds who said, take a quarter out of your pocket, throw it in a field, and a trained dog can find it. Out of the 40K things they smell in that field, they know the quarter doesn't belong and it's yours.

Bike "jackings" happen. Receiving a beat down and then being robbed after being knocked off of your bike will ruin your day. Picture crashing your bike, then getting kicked a few times and waking up with your wallet and phone gone (and possibly your bike).
