John Caddell, 72, will face another charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to court records. He had not been arraigned on the charge as of Friday afternoon.

Records show the charges come from the same police investigation that resulted in Caddell being charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct on a person under 13 years old and one count each of second-degree criminal sexual conduct on a person under 13 years old and accosting a child for immoral purposes.

Sgt. Geoffrey Fox, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, said last week Caddell is accused of inappropriate sexual contact with two children, aged 8 and 10. The alleged incidents occurred between October and April.

At a preliminary exam held Tuesday, Washtenaw County Assistant Prosecutor J. Samuel Holtz said the forthcoming charges were related to a third child.

“There was an interview done with another child,” he said Tuesday.

The preliminary exam was adjourned because the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office, which had been appointed in the case, had a conflict of interest. According to court records, Michael Gatti is now Caddell’s attorney.

Gatti was not immediately able to speak about the charges with AnnArbor.com Friday afternoon.

At the hearing on Tuesday, Caddell asked for a bond reduction.

“I ain’t never been in trouble,” he said to District Court Judge Joseph Burke.

Holtz argued against the motion, saying, “There’s tremendous danger to these children.”

AnnArbor.com is not releasing details on the incident for which Caddell is charged because it would identify the children he is accused of assaulting. AnnArbor.com does not identify the victims of sex crimes.

Caddell is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, according to court records.

Crime reporter John Counts contributed to this story.

a man that age should be sitting on the porch in his rocking chair, enjoying the breeze, now if convicted he will be shooting the breeze with convicts. unless he just gets probation.

I am sure this man must be innocent of this charge and the others as well ...cuz DMX says so. Even if he is guilty ..all he needs are a few hours of "sensitivity classes" and maybe community service at a local elementary school. Aint PC justice wonderful ????

I know Mr.Caddell personally and I have to say that the men is innocent!! these accusation are coming from unreliable resources.... Just like we hide our "rape" victim names I believe that we should keep the names of the people who are being accused out of the public until he is proven guilty.... Just think if this was your grandparent and people our saying such negative things about your granddad and you can't even defend him because ann arbor would delete your comment.

Whether or not he is innocent, I have to agree with you. Our system doesn't do anything to protect the falsely accused. In addition, by naming the accused, the identities of victims become that much more obvious. This is a serious accusation, and as long as the accused is in custody, there should be no reason to publish his name. That's the practice in the U.K., but unfortunately not here.

What conflict of interest would prevent the public defender from defending a member of the public?

Nick- Usually the conflict comes when the PD's office has previously represented someone involved in the case, such as a victim or a witness.
