Regina Williams died Wednesday at the age of 62 after battling lung cancer for three years.

Williams, who lived in Ypsilanti, is survived by two children, Leslie Wright and Leon Williams.

"She was a phenomenal mom," said Williams.

Williams worked as a teacher and principal at Edmonson Middle School in the Willow Run school district, then as director of secondary education for the district. Colleagues say she will be sadly missed.

Relatives say Williams retired five years ago and welcomed former students to visit her all through her career and even after retirement, saying she was well-known in the community

There will be a visitation for Williams on Wednesday, January 30, from 1-7 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home located at 4670 Inkster Road in Westland, Mich.

There will be a service on Thursday, Jan. 31, with a family hour from 10-11 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Wayne, 33640 Michigan Avenue in Wayne, followed by a celebration of life for guests at 11 a.m.
