Hit-and-run driver strikes two pedestrians in Ypsilanti Township
Two pedestrians were injured in a hit-and-run accident on Huron River Drive in Ypsilanti Township this afternoon.
Both were taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance, Ypsilanti Fire Capt. Max Anthouard said. He said at least one appeared to have serious injuries.
A vehicle hit the pedestrians, a man and a woman at 1322 Huron River Drive about 3 p.m., Anthouard said. He did not know their ages or their place of residence.
Further information about what happened and what kind of car was involved was not immediately available. Ypsilanti police are investigating, Anthouard said.

Best wishes to the injured victims. I feel like a nit-picker for mentioning this but I can't help but quibble about the use of the term "hit and run accident." This is more like a hit and run - incident. Adding: yesterday a member of the Washtenaw Biking and Walking Coalition (WBWC) reported witnessing the aftermath of a bike-car collision at Main St. & Ann St., Ann Arbor. They only saw the ambulance as it was about to leave and an AAPD officer putting a bicycle in the trunk of a patrol car. Has AnnArbor.com got any news of this "accident?"

Where does it mention that the female victim was pregnant? Was there another article, or did the Detroit News top AA.com once again on a local story containing more relevant information?

Jimmy, I was a few cars back at the accident coming from McDonald's going west. The response by 2 city fire trucks, one Superior fire truck, 3 Huron Valley Ambulance and 4 police cars were outstanding - they should be credited for their fast response and notably saving lives. We should be proud to live in this area, and best wishes to the injured and their families for a speedy recovery.

The article didn't say but - they were waiting at a Bus Top and were on the grass, not in the road. The Bus stop sign was completely taken out when the hit-run driver left the road and injured the pregnant woman and her male companion - then sped away.

Ummm...ok? Car-violence is not an appropriate term? What would you rather call it? Hit and run. Hit = violence, run = with a car

I wish the young lady that was pregnant and her mail companion the best - and God's speed in recovery. The driver will be caught, just a matter of time.

Really dangerous section of road....four lanes with no shoulders to speak of, heavy traffic at certain times of day, winding road, 45 mph speed limit, and lots of bikes and walkers from the college....dangerous, in my opinion. Anyhow, I hope these folks are going to be okay.

Could not agree more. Especially on the other portion where the speed limit is only 35 mph, people drive 55 mph anyway, and there are bikes everywhere.

So it occurred in Ypsilanti Township and is being investigated by Ypsilanti Police? Last time I checked Ypsilanti Township is patrolled by the Sheriff's Department.

This happened near the border between the township and the city. I was told that Ypsilanti police were handling this investigation, even though the accident was in the township.
