An Ypsilanti Township man died this morning after his truck hit a car at the intersection of Grove and Bridge roads and rolled over several times, throwing him from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 25-year-old woman from Bad Axe driving the other vehicle, a 2007 Honda CRV, was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Washtenaw County sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson said.

The 47-year-old man was driving his 2003 Ford pickup truck west on Grove Road above the speed limit and swerving about 7 a.m. when the truck sideswiped the Honda, which was stopped at the intersection, spinning it around. The force of the impact sent the truck traveling east. It rolled over several times and landed in a grassy area, Jackson said.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, Jackson said. He was driving on a suspended license and investigators believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

The speed limit in the area is 35 mph, Jackson said.

Grove Road was closed for several hours for the crash investigation.

Except by the grace of God, there go I. I was home just five minutes from Grove and Bridge and left the house at 6:55 for coffee at Tim Horton's. The police turned me around just as I turned onto Grove. So close. It sounds as though the small community reacted positively to the accident. Dennis

Oh and FYI: I luckily made it out of that crash alive. I'm bruised all over from the seatbelt and have a few minor cuts/scratches but really nothing else. The worst thing was that my heart is slightly bruised so it's beating a bit fast...I'm hoping that goes away soon. Docs and I are keeping an eye on it. God really was on my side yesterday morning!! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that 'My Sweet Lord' by George Harrison was on the radio when this happened (it's true...pretty sure it was 94.7 or maybe 104.3). Even stranger that I'm a huge Beatles fan, that song was on, and this happened just past McCartney road...freaky huh? :S

Good morning to all who commented!! I'm actually the girl who was injured in that crash. I drove the light blue Honda CRV. Figured I'd come on here and clear everything up for everyone since you all seem to be wondering and since I'm luckily alive to tell what happened! :) I was on my way to work about 10 minutes to 7, and had just pulled out of the Lakeshore Apartments, which is where I live after getting a job in the area. I waited for a nice man in a white pickup to pass before pulling out, followed him, and was slowing down/stopping for the light at Bridge street (from the West, facing East). All of a sudden I looked up and there was a Ford F150 grill in my face coming from the East. I could do nothing, no time to react, he was going too fast. BOOM! It was deafening and muffled all at the same time...I closed my eyes and felt myself spinning. I opened my eyes making sure I was still alive and began screaming. My windshield was flapping in my face and all the airbags had gone off (thank goodness for side curtain airbags). I couldn't get out because my door was bashed in so badly. The man in white truck pulled me out (thank you) and neighbors started gathering around. That's when I noticed the man/truck was upside down in the fence next to me. Everyone who actually had time to see what was going on said his driver door wasn't even latched--he was driving with it open. Those who were at the Speedway gas station came running down saying they called 911, noticed he was drunk, and said he was ramming people as he flew down Grove St. A nice man was in hysterics because he said he was at the Speedway, tried taking the man's keys and stopping him and no one would help. To that man, Thank You! I wish others would actually help so something like this wouldn't have happened. There was garbage all over (hence the debris) and I thought he hit a trash can--nope his truck was full of garbage and it spewed everywhere as he flipped. No fire, nothing else. Hope that helps! :)

My husband was driving to work right around this time when he said a black F150 almost ran him over by Speedway and was driving on the curb and very fast. I bet that's the same person. Thank goodness my Husband made it out OK!! I hope this mans family is doing OK!

I drove through at 7:20 and there was debris all over the place. The RAV 4 was pushed up against the fence and there was a tow truck on the scene. Does anyone know the circumstances surrounding this crash?

When I drove past around 8 a.m. this morning, there was what looked like a pick-up truck upside down up against a fence, lots of debris scattered across Grove and what looked like another vehicle that had been on fire at some point.
