A two-vehicle crash on Clark Road near Golfside Road Wednesday sent two people to the hospital, one in critical condition.
The crash, which occurred on Clark Road just east of the intersection with Golfside Road, trapped both drivers in the wreckage, Pittsfield Township Fire Chief Sean Gleason said. Firefighters worked for about 15 to 20 minutes to free one driver, a woman, and up to 45 minutes to free the other driver, a man.
Huron Valley Ambulance paramedics took both drivers to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. The man was in critical condition, said spokeswoman Karen Gabrys. The woman was in stable condition, she said.
The crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. The intersection was closed while firefighters freed the victims and sheriff’s deputies investigated the crash.

Is this Pittsfield or Ypsilanti Township? The photo's caption says Ypsilanti, but the statement is from the Pittsfield Twp. Fire Chief. Also, there are fire engines from both townships in the photo.

The crash occurred in Ypsilanti Township. My understanding is that Pittsfield was first on the scene. Ypsilanti Township firefighters responded as well.

This photo was taken after firefighters freed the drivers from the wreckage. That's why you see a portion of the red car lying by the side of the road.

I feel better about the red car's driver, now that I know that impact didn't tear it off, but firefighters did.

Well, if they were traveling in opposite directions, isn't that the equivalent of 90 miles per hour? Even at 40 mph it would be equal to 80 mph.

I think they debunked that on Mythbusters.

It does look like a high speed crash, but that surprises me since I drive that road every morning and no one ever drives the 45 mile an hour speed limit. If they get to 40, I consider it a miracle.

Looks fairly typical of an offset crash. Most cars are designed to 35mph crash standards, anything above that and you get substantially worse energy transference. And not in a linear scale, but logarithmic. High-speed crashes usually result in rollovers.

This looks like it was a high speed crash.
