Armed robbery suspect makes off with $18,000 from Cash Land
An employee of an Ypsilanti Township check-cashing business arrived at work Saturday morning only to have a male suspect follow her in and take $18,000 from a safe.
“She was unlocking the door and the suspect put something to her back she thought was a gun,” said Sgt. Geoff Fox of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. “He made some statements that he had a gun.”
Deputies were dispatched to Cash Land, located on the 1500 block of Holmes Road, for the armed robbery at approximately 8:15 a.m.
The employee, a 30-year-old Wayne County woman, told police the man demanded that she take him to the safe and open it. The man then placed the cash in the bag.
“He took the money and took off,” Fox said.
The man then ordered the woman to lie on the ground as he fled the area.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, 5 foot 10 inches tall, medium build, full beard, wearing a beige hat, blue jeans, gray turtleneck and gray sunglasses.
The woman told police she had seen a gray or blue car pull up into the parking lot shortly after she had.
Police continue to investigate.

I thought normal procedure in cases like this was to NOT print the amount stolen. Is there a reason the amount is published this time?

That is not an oxymoron. It's just irony.

Wow, I see my comment was removed! Why? It was not in any violation! I should not expect anything less from greenhorn reporting anyways. So, I will say it again, regarding this story. This incident seems fishy. I am sure the detectives are "thoroughly" checking things out.

It could have been a different moderator between Hmm's comment and yours. Different people make different judgements with the same guidelines. Ever have different lifeguards at the pool make different judgement calls? Some are strict and some are lax.

"Hmm" straight up say's it could be an inside job, and his comment is at the top of the list, untouched. I hint it could be an inside job, and POOOF, my comment is GONE!!

So glad the woman wasn't injured, did he make her lay on the ground or floor? I'm guessing the floor. I prefer to cash my checks at my bank, after automatic deposit.

This is either a totally legit robbery or an inside job from the sounds of it. The police will get to the bottom of this no doubt

HMM may have been implying it was an inside job by giving both outcomes in order to not be deleted.

With all due respect. I believe those are the ONLY 2 options available.
