Armed robbery reported early Saturday in Ypsilanti
A 20-year-old Ypsilanti man told police he lost consciousness after an armed robbery in Depot Town early Saturday, before waking up several hours later and asking a friend to take him to a hospital.
The victim told police he was on East Cross Street walking home from a party at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, when a group of at least four men "jumped" him.
The man told police he was punched and kicked by three black men, then a white man about 21 years old with a dark goatee cut him with a knife "and attempted to stab him in the back twice," according to police.
The men then removed cash from his wallet and threw the wallet back at him, he told police.
He lost consciousness at the end of the assault, the victim reported to officers. When he awakened several hours later, he asked a friend to drive him to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Police were called to the hospital to take the report at about 10 a.m.
Three marks were visible on the man's shirt, but barely penetrated his skin, according to police.
Officers said the investigation is on-going. They ask anyone with information to call 734-482-9878.

The quotes are from the police incident report released to the media in the hours after the event. While the article may not reflect the actual injuries, it was all that police released at the time. We're updating the story.

This article is really bad. This young man was attacked, put in the hospital and sustained injuries. This doesn't reflect the actual injuries and I highly doubt these quotes are taken from the police. Anyone who would read this article would suspect the victim was lying. Just awful!

Something smells a little off here. He was stabbed, but just hard enough to tear his shirt? Ok....

The hospital is great about calling the police for the victim. Cross St. might be a bad place to walk at 1:30 a.m. You would never find me there, even in a car.

I have no problems walking in that area day or night.

But you should be able to. It was once safer (never safe, but safer) than this.

I heard there was a home invasion on Washtenaw Court in Ann Arbor last night also.
