2 vehicles reported stolen in Ypsilanti Monday

By John Counts

Two vehicles were stolen Monday in Ypsilanti , according to a police crime summary.

A green 1994 Dodge Dakota with the keys in the ignition was taken from a driveway in the 700 block of Harriet Street, the report said. The theft was reported at 7 a.m. and occurred sometime the night before.

Ypsilanti police took another report of a stolen car at 3:20 p.m. The victim reported that at some point overnight, someone took her 2003 Honda Civic in the 500 block of First Avenue. The keys were not in the vehicle at the time, according to the summary.

Police continue to investigate.

I think the Civic was stolen. The truck was a gift.

Truck with the keys in the ignition and a Honda Civic, probably with the doors unlocked (nothing stated about forced entry). And people wonder why their cars get stolen?

If I had a 94 dakota, I'd leave the keys in it too. With a full coverage insurance policy ;)

That '94 Dakota may well be on an Odessa-bound tramp steamer, bound for that lucrative black market hard by the banks of the Dniester River in the breakaway rump territory of Transnistria. That's my guess, anyway. You sure couldn't get much for it here.
