- Updated article: Police catch 4 suspects after shots were fired at house and deputy
12:30 p.m. update: Police still had Greenlawn Avenue blocked off early Wednesday afternoon. A helicopter used in the search Wednesday morning had left and some officers had left the area as well, although several were still on the scene.
Police were scouring the West Willow area of Ypsilanti Township Wednesday morning for a third suspect who fled from officers called to the area for shots fired.

Two suspects were in police custody and were being questioned, said Derrick Jackson of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to Greenlawn Avenue south of Ecorse Road in Ypsilanti Township just before 7 a.m. for shots fired. Jackson said the shots were reportedly fired at a residence on the street. The three men fled in a vehicle and were involved in a crash nearby, Jackson said.
The men attempted to flee on foot. Officers caught two of them, but a third got away, Jackson said. The third suspect was believed to be a teenager or pre-teen boy, an advisory sent out by the sheriff's department said.
Search efforts were in full swing all around Interstate 94 near West Willow Wednesday morning, with Michigan State Police, Ypsilanti police and Van Buren township police all participating.
“They’re doing a track of the area,” Jackson said. “They’re searching this whole area,” Details on the shots fired weren't immediately available this early in the investigation, Jackson said.

After reading this article I am so ready to give up my guns... After all isn't it not fun to have the bad guys shooting at you. No I bet they had those registered to them. See if i wouldve had a assault rifle and they where shooting at my house I can guarantee there would be no one leaving the scene.

One of the guys was caught this morning in West Willow and the cops were searching this morning. I know because he was caught in my parents back yard. To the person that said this stuff happens all the time , actually I lived in that house for 25 years and something like that had never happened before

This morning's Nixle alert said they were looking for a third suspect and he is considered armed and dangerous. Yes they are looking for this suspect in West Willow. The first sentence in the story says the police are scouring West Willow for a third suspect. The picture of the helicopter flying over a house is in West Willow. The shooting didn't happen in West Willow but they are looking for the suspect here and probably other neighboring streets. Those who are still confused about this story please reread it. The info is there if you take the time to read it .

I'm getting text messages from people concerned about my family because I live near Huron River Drive in Ypsi Township...I told them it's not near Huron River Drive but I'm wondering if there was some misleading info put out mentioning Huron River Drive because they are all mentioning HRD and Greenlawn.

Several Black SUV's with lights were parked on the North, West bound side of I94 , East of Willow Run Exit covering a span of a mile. I thought I saw one of the officers pointing a shotgun at the bushes.

This happened in the East Lawn Subdivision not West Willow The person at the home went to the store as he dose everyday brfore work and returned home and there were 4 guys in his back yard. he ran them off and they returned and shot at him hitting his cars, home and the room where his children were sleeping. No one was hurt cept maybe the bad guys when they crached. I think he stopped a home invasion at his home where his wife and kids were and they returned and opened fire on him. More good guys need guns and Ypsilanti and there fight against the " Stand Your Ground Law ' this is perfect exampel of what that law if for. It was his property he had the right to be there. There were 4 of them and only himself why should he have to egress and run if able to do so? Thats just BULL**** he should of drew his side arm had the bad guys prone out in the grass and called the cops. If they failed to do so on command on his proprety and tried to harm him he should have the right as an American to defend himself, his family and his property by any means necessary for the protection of his well being and his familys well being

Are we really cursed to have someone bring up Zimmerman/Martin in every article regardless of relevance now?

Ordmad, Did you even bother to look at the site that I linked? Perhaps you may have issues with the site as a whole, but the section that I linked to was written (well) and objectively by a lawyer who actually sat in on the whole trial. He has the expertise and the first hand knowledge of the case that so many commentors here speculate erroneously upon. Your opinion of the site notwithstanding how about the content I specified?

Rice is still right....and stand your ground laws are used far more than they are abused...which is why they are here to stay. Michigan's "Castle Law' is ALSO a "stand your ground" law because of the wording in it. "Anywhere you legally have a right to be." Which is as it should be. No duty to retreat...no requirement of cowardice...

Ricebrnr: Oh, pluuuease! You might as well point readers to the Westboro Baptist Church for facts if you're going to start saying Legal Insurrection is an objective website. On the upside, if you donate they send you a customized tinfoil hat.

SOOOOOO much fail!!!! "Stand Your Ground allows people like George Zimmerman to get themselves into situations they should not be in and kill someone." Why don't you educate yourself on the facts by a lawyer and a preeminent LEO and Self Defense expert? http://legalinsurrection.com/tag/george-zimmerman-trial/ http://limatunesrangediary.blogspot.com/2013/08/massad-ayoob-on-zimmerman.html

Michigan has had the so called "castle law" for quite some time. It allows you to defend your property. Stand Your Ground allows people like George Zimmerman to get themselves into situations they should not be in and kill someone.

How exactly does Stand Your Ground relate to your story about a guy defending his own home, which would be a standard Castle Doctrine case?

Weren't there a lot of people throwing a fit about cameras being installed in Afghanistan, oops, I mean West Willow? Sure would be handy in these types of situations that happen so often.

Thumbs-up to all the officers involved for nabbing the first two so quickly. Shouldn't take long to get the third. Thanks for keeping our neighborhoods safe.

Should residents near the Greenlawn/Ecorse area be concerned? Do the police know for sure that the suspect headed to west willow? The area north of I94 is a decent area with a lot of families and children and good citizens. Should they be locking their doors?

Is it your opinion that all of the people in West Willow are undesirables? Yes we have some problems in our neighborhood but look around you. In Canton, Ann Arbor and other neighborhoods in Ypsilanti you'll find problems and problematic people. Not just West Willow. For your information... the Greenlawn/Ecorse area isn't all that great either. There's no utopian society in any part of this area or anywhere in the world that I'm aware of. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Read the article, it says they FLED! So look at the map, I would think they crashed in the area of I-94 and the bypass, which is next to West Wiilow.
