1 driver dead, 1 taken to hospital after crash in Ypsilanti Township

Washtenaw County sheriff’s Sgt. Geoffrey Fox confirmed that one person died in the two-vehicle crash, which occurred about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ypsilanti Township Fire Capt. Brad Johnson said Huron Valley Ambulance took a woman, who was driving a Ford Explorer, to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. The other vehicle was a four-door sedan and had a male driver, he said.

The vehicles appeared to have collided on Whittaker Road just south of Merritt Road, Johnson said.

The intersection of Whittaker and Merritt was closed for the crash investigation at 3:18 p.m. Fox said it would likely be closed for about an hour.
