Ypsilanti selects 2 internal candidates as finalists for police chief
Ypsilanti's next police chief will come from within the department, the city announced today.
A field of six finalists has been further narrowed to the two internal candidates - Lt. Craig Annas and Lt. Amy Walker.
Annas and Walker will now participate in a second round of interviews with City Manager Ed Koryzno.
“The police chief is the face of the police department to the community, and the consensus of both committees was that the two internal candidates distinguished themselves as having the potential to be that person,” Koryzno said in a press release.
The Police and Citizen Advisory Committees interviewed the six police chief candidates last Friday.
Koryzno intends to make his final announcement by Dec. 23, the city said.
Ypsilanti has been without a police chief since the end of May, when former Chief Matt Harshberger retired to become the public safety director for Pittsfield Township.

Lt. Walker graduated number one in her Command Officer Training Academy. She has 22 years of dedication and committment to the City of Ypsilanti. Lt. Walker has a rapport and reputation with surrounding Police Departments, Courts and the Prosecutors office of being Honest, Fair and forthright with uncompromised integrity. I encourage the City to select Lt. Walker as Ypsilanti's next Police Chief.

Congratulations to the City for two fine INTERNAL candidates. Why bother to train and educate our employees and then hire a chief from somewhere else? A smart move by the city - and best of luck to both candidates. dading, I'm partial to one also...but either one would be fine!

it's about time a new chief came from within. probably the smartest thing the city has done considering it's financial situation. both would make good chiefs, i'm partial to one, but will not mention whom.
