Ypsilanti schools: Clerical error led to hours-long bus delays for kindergartners
The first day of school in Ypsilanti generated concern among parents at Perry Child Development Center, where a bus mix-up led to at least a 2-hour delay in getting children home.
According to a report on WXYZ-TV, district officials said a clerical error led to the mixup. It involved 25 children being held after school because they weren't listed on bus routes.
That same day, the TV station is reporting, 10 children were put on wrong buses - and ended up riding around for 2 hours.

I don't know. I feel like a private company that promises "service is second to none" and claims to be "larger than life" has to perform better than something run by government muck. The old public bus system never told me they were larger than life. For sure, I want my kid brought home on something larger than life. And I want my tax dollars to fund someone's mansion that is larger than life. Really, what's more important? Delivering kids safely home on time (dull) or delivering kids somewhere, sometime in a "larger than life" fashion (exciting)? http://www.trinitytransportation.com/ Well, at least the man in video is making money of our tax dollars, if not the drivers. That's good for the economy, right? I for one, am glad my tax dollars are at least helping someone. Live large, Jerry Sheppard! Live large, off our school taxes! Kids can wait.

If Ypsilanti had not given out to WISD this never would have happen. Privatization does not work with bus transportation. Dexter, Chelsea, Manchester and Van Buren all know this. Especially since Trinity is now in the mix. This does not surprise me in the least. Glad to hear they got home OK.

Nice reporting, AA.com. Is that all you guys do is sit around and watch TV to get "news"? Meanwhile, you cover the non-story of upset AA parents over busing changes made over a month ago. Glad this drivel is free. Ahhhh, the NY Times is on the front porch.

What a mess this was. Our grandson told them he rides bus 1.But some other lady told him no you ride this bus just get on this bus.3 hr`s later he was found at some after school program by Ypsi. high.I should mention he`s only 5 yr`s old he loved the after school program. When he did get home he told us he liked the end of the day part of school. He got to play Basketball color, eat smors and play some other games.I don`t have to tell you how mad he got when he found out he won`t be going to that. When he found out he was not singed up for that program. Now he does not want to go to school. Some other girl told the bus driver her brother was not on the bus yet.She was told shut up and go sit down kid. When at the school they had no clue where the kids were sent. The only way we found our grand son.Was when the after school program was over and he was the only kid left. That`s when the girls looked at there paper work to see what kid`s were singed up.Then they found his backpack and got the ph# and called us to come pick him up.Now would you not think to do a roll call to make sure you have all the right kid`s in your program.Just a thought

Bones seems to by implying that only union people are competent? That's slamming a lot of non union folks who make up 85% of the national work force.

My grandson was among the victims of that "clerical error". HE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD!!! You incompetent bureaucrats scared the cr*p out him. Fortunately, he's only 5 so he'll get over it eventually - but don't think for minute that he didn't learn a great deal that day. He learned that school is scary, bus drivers don't care about him and (most-importantly) that he doesn't want to go to school anymore. Good job Ypsilanti Public Schools! Let's just hope its not too late to get him into a Charter School before "count day".

I found it interesting that I saw a Trinity bus on the picture. So, they didn't hire drivers, cut Ann Arbor runs and still got Trinity back? Don't you all think that the public needs to know how much they "SAVED" by switching transportation over to the WISD? Did they get the retirees back paying them double what they are paying the actual employees? Does Trinity have two way radios now or are they still driving down the road on their cell phones to communicate with the base?

WISD made a disaster out of busing. They got rid of great drivers, hired their own and now no one wants to drive for them. They only got 30 apps this summer. I am looking elsewhere next fall for full time work that cares abut what I do and how I do my job. Stay away from WISD for a job. They do not treat their employees well.

Trinity was hired by Ypsilanti. Not by Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is not working with Trinity. You see someone driving Ypsilanti children home. This is just an FYI to another busted union problem Ypsi is trying to fix.

Clerical error huh? Are you sure it is not the outsourced bus drivers that took the union drivers jobs away? I never heard of this problem before they got rid of the union drivers and hired these folks.

Everyone has their fair share of busing problems. Uh huh. Let me guess, it got worse after thy privatize Ann Arbor, Ypsi and WR. Remember last year? O gee, they seem to forget. Ypsi ended up hiring Trinity and Ann Arbor is all over Ann Arbor .com because they got rid of half of their HS run. Before that? No problems. We laid off busted union drivers cared about our children and got them home. WISD came in and made a mess of the whole thing. Glad everyone else stayed out of this mess. Can't wait to hear how Plymouth Canton is doing. Their union was busted last summer.

You apparently don't pay attention. Every district has some degree of busing problems at the beginning of school and have for many years - union or non-union drivers.

The unions have their fair share of mistakes and are very good at shushing issues away as well. It was a simple clerical error, not an epic-sized screw-up caused by a lack of unions.

I find it interesting the Channel 7 consistantly gives us the local news before AA.com does! This was on the evening news last night but posted here just this morning. Cut and pasted from their website. Very interesting at best.

Sorry, let me clarify the following sentence, "They report much more on the Ann Arbor Public Schools". I meant Annarbor.com reports much more on AAPS, not that Heritage does.

Annarbor.com rarely posts articles that reflect negatively on Ypsilanti Public Schools. Better coverage of YPSD is available through the Heritage papers. They report much more on the Ann Arbor Public Schools. That said, any local coverage they cover is pretty poor if you're looking for real, investigative journalism. Annarbor.com leans more toward the positive in local coverage, which I'm not against at all, except sometimes we do need to hear the bad things so we're prepared if it affects us. We used to be able to rely on the local news sources for that information, but now you have to build more of a community network with parents, etc. to stay informed.
