Ypsilanti High School interim principal will not accept the permanent position
Kwame Stephens, the interim principal at Ypsilanti High School, will not accept the permanent position, according to a report in The Ypsilanti Courier.
Stephens released his decision in a letter to the community earlier this month and will stay in his position until the district hires a new principal to take his place, the report said.
YHS is set to undergo a major transformation next year, with the school divided into two separate academies under one roof. The school will have a Leadership Academy, focusing on public policy, and an Arts Academy.
Emma Jackson, spokesperson for YPS, said in the report that the district supports Stephens' decision, even though officials were caught off guard by his choice.
"We're just going to move forward," Jackson said.

The new plan for YHS is a joke. It does nothing for the children who WANT to do things with mathematics and sciences. I'm glad I graduated before this idea was allowed to go through.
