WISD superintendent Scott Menzel receives award for work in early childhood education

By Kyle Feldscher

New Washtenaw Intermediate School District superintendent Scott Menzel has received an award from the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators for his work in early childhood education, among other initiatives.

Menzel received the President’s Distinguished Service Award for his work as chair of the MAISA Early Childhood Committee.

He was cited for his work promoting early childhood programs, establishing positive working relationships with organizations that serve infants up to 5-year-olds, defining important issues in early childhood education, and helping to insure intermediate school districts around the state would be considered for future early childhood funding.

“I appreciate the recognition and share it with all of the hard-working members of the MAISA Early Childhood Committee,” Menzel said in a statement.

MAISA is a statewide professional organization of administrators from Michigan’s intermediate school districts and regional education service agencies.

Menzel was hired by the WISD in April and took over the superintendent position earlier this month from interim superintendent Richard Leyshock, who retired. Former WISD superintendent William Miller retired from the position in January.
