Willow Run school district facing another enrollment shortfall

By David Jesse

The Ypsilanti Citizen was at last night's Willow Run school board meeting and its report has several interesting nuggets about enrollment in the financially troubled district.

Among them is a mention from Willow Run Superintendent Doris Hope-Jackson, who notes the district is running almost 150 students below budget projections. That could lead to another $1 million budget shortfall for the district, which is currently working under a state mandated budget deficit elimination plan.

The district closed one elementary school for the start of this school year. The plan calls for another elementary school to be closed if enrollment targets aren't met this year.

The article also notes that despite enrollment falling short of projections, parents are still complaining about overcrowded classes.
