Willow Run High School Top Scholars
Willow Run High School held its 2011 graduation ceremonies Friday, June 3 in the school auditorium. The class included 91 graduates.
Laura Hammonds
Parents: Karen and Owen Hammonds
Activities and Awards: Laura, a dual-enrolled student at Washtenaw Community College, has been a member of the National Honor Society, student government and the Link crew, as well as serving two years as the team manager of the track and field team. Her community service includes the Salvation Army, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. Laura has received the Good Citizen Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Plans after graduation: Laura will continue her studies at Washtenaw Community College, transferring to Eastern Michigan University to study bio-molecular and chemical engineering with a focus on pharmaceutical research.
Lisa Hammonds
Parents: Karen and Owen Hammonds
Activities and Awards: Lisa has been a member of the volleyball team for four years and the track and field team for two years. She has served as the secretary of the National Honor Society, as well as the class of 2011. The recipient of the THI Scholarship, Lisa was chosen as one of WXYZ's Brightest and Best.
Plans after graduation: Lisa will continue her studies at Washtenaw Community College, transferring to Eastern Michigan University to major in business.
Briana Jenkins
Parents: Joel and Carol Jenkins
Activities and Awards: Serving as treasurer of her senior class, Briana has been a member the National Honor Society, the varsity volleyball team and the Class Cabinet during her 10th, 11th and 12 grades. She volunteered at the Salvation Army, the Gilbert's Residence and for the USMC's Toys for Tots program. An active member of EMU's Project Upward Bound, she has received the Lawson Math Award and the Regent's Scholarship to EMU.
Plans after graduation: Briana will attend Eastern Michigan University and major in biology, with a minor in zoology.
Jaime Rhodes
Parents: Thereasa Bailey and Douglas Montgomery
Activities and Awards: Jaime has been a member of the varsity volleyball and softball teams since her freshman year, receiving the Coaches' and Most Improved awards for her performance on the court and field. The recipient of the Blanche Shnyder Award for academics, Jaime also was vice president of her class, served as historian of the National Honor Society and as a student representative on the School Improvement Team. She is currently the first-chair clarinetist in the concert band.
Plans after graduation: Jaime will attend Eastern Michigan University to pursue a degree in nursing.
