Whitmore Lake man, 84, in serious condition after head-on crash with dump truck
An 84-year-old Whitmore Lake man was upgraded to serious condition today after his vehicle collided head-up with a dump truck on M-36 in Green Oak Township on Monday.
Wayne Lamerson remains hospitalized at the University of Michigan Medical Center, officials said.
Green Oak Township police said Lamerson was driving east on M-36 about 3 p.m. Monday when his car crossed the center line at Spicer Road on a curve. The vehicle struck a dump truck towing an asphalt paver.
Lamerson was trapped in his vehicle until firefighters were able to cut the wreckage and free him, officials said. The driver and passenger in the dump truck were not injured.
Lamerson, who is retired, has been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ann Arbor for about 60 years, said Pastor Stacey Simpson Duke. Simpson Duke said family members are coming to town to be with Lamerson.
"He needs people's prayers and care and support right now," Simpson Duke said.

First and foremost I hope Mr. Lamerson pulls through and makes a full recovery. That being said, the M-36/Spicer road "triangle" intersection is a notoriously dangerous curve for even the most alert drivers. I suppose we shouldn't jump to conclusions and assume that since he was 84 he shouldn't have been driving. We all need to just calm down, slow down, and take it easy. Only get behind the wheel if you are fully awake and alert and remember that being 5 minutes late is better than never arriving at all.
