Washtenaw County employees will be hosting a sixth-annual school supply drive for area students.

The "Stuff the Bus" event will collect supplies from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 5 to 9 in the parking lot of the Target at 3749 Carpenter Road in Pittsfield Township.

All supplies collected that week will be placed in a full-sized school bus at the location.

In 2012, the event collected $10,000 worth of school supplies for students in Washtenaw County.

Suggested items for donation include:

  • Pencils
  • Backpacks
  • Three-ring binders
  • Composition books
  • Erasers
  • Colored pencils
  • Crayons
  • Pens
  • Mechanical pencils
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Folders
  • Hi-lighters
  • Index cards
  • Calculators
  • Display boards
  • Protractors
  • Rulers

Supplies collected go to students in public schools in the Washtenaw Intermediate School District.

Schools in the district communicate to the coordinators of the Stuff the Bus event the number of children in need of supplies.

The event kicks off the county employee's 2013 United Way Campaign.

I think the time must be wrong. I tried to drop my stuff off but there wasn't a bus in the Target parking lot and this was at 3:15. The article from last year gives the drop off time as 9-3. I'm hoping the days are correct.

The background pic needs to say Washtenaw Intermediate School District or Ann Arbor Public Schools because Willow Run no longer exists. Great old pic though and a great worthy cause.

I do this every year. I love doing this. This is my "retail therapy". I spend over $300 to $500 every year doing this. I wish Wayne county can do this. I think Wayne county is poorer than Washtenaw. I am a big believer in education!!
