Fireworks exploded over Ford Lake in Ypsilanti Township Friday night, thanks to the Lakeshore Apartments display, which continues tonight.

Trying to decide where to see fireworks during the July 4 weekend?

Several local options exist tonight and Sunday.

Saturday

• Ypsilanti Township: Lakeshore Apartments: 2117 Lakeview Drive, Ypsilanti Township. 10:15 p.m. The fireworks celebration will be a little more private this year than in the past, meaning those hoping to catch the show need to park closer - the show won’t be visible from township parks. People should park on Bridge Road. Cost is $5 per car.

• Manchester: at dusk, Carr Park, 600 W. Main St., Manchester. Admission: Donations appreciated.

• Dexter Township: Hudson Mills MetroPark, 8801 North Territorial Road. “Big Pinky and the Joint Effort Band” will perform at the Activity Center from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a break for fireworks at 10 p.m. Plan to arrive at least two hours early for the fireworks, due to crowd conditions. Admission: Daily or annual vehicle entry permit ($5/$25).

Sunday

• Whitmore Lake: at dusk, Whitmore Lake. Admission: Free.

Same thing I was thinking. Township employees were on furlough Friday (according to the website), the parks always close at dusk everyday and the fireworks show was not supported by tax dollars. Thanks to Lakeshore for stepping up and keeping the fireworks alive!

The Township parks close at dusk. The fireworks are not put on by the township so why should they stay open?

Dont try and park at an Ypsi Township Park as they closed Ford Lake Park for the shows and make you park at a paid venue... how is this legal? and who authorized closing a park so residents have to pay to park elsewhere? I pay taxes so I can use the township park but they close it for the shows???????? who authorized this fiasco?
