Vehicles stuck on flooded Eisenhower Parkway as storms pound Ann Arbor

By Nathan Bomey

At least three vehicles were stuck on a flooded portion of Eisenhower Parkway near Ann Arbor-Saline Road on Ann Arbor's south side at about 6:20 p.m. as storms continue to pound the area.

The road is completely flooded for a stretch of about 200 feet in between the Colonnade Shopping Center and the shopping complex with the Whole Foods Market store.

Drivers are being forced to find alternative routes. Some pickup trucks are barreling through the water, which appears to be at least 18 inches deep in some parts.

Watch this video to see the flooded road with a taxi and a Cadillac stuck on the northern portion of Eisenhower. When a Dodge pickup rams through the water about halfway through the video, watch waves pour onto the driveway into the shopping center.

It's just not a good idea to plunge in when the water hides the roadway. In addition to hydro-lock, other unpleasant surprises can include a road washout or sinkhole hidden by the pooling water.

Looks like the storm drains need to be cleaned in that area.

Personally - I think the video proves there are at least three drivers with marginal judgment in Arbor. The caddy must have been a rental?!?

The Cadillac wasn't a rental... I was actually in that car. My dad thought that there "wasn't that much water". His car is totally wrecked now.

Can the police give this guy a ticket for endangering the lives of folks?

Yes folks, I know it's dangerous to plow through standing water, but one of the worst things you can do is stop or let off the gas when driving through standing water. It's best to plow right threw if you've already started, not stop. It'll cause your call to stahl out. It's best altogether to avoid the standing water in the first place, of course!!!!

Wrong! "Plowing through" increases the risk of sucking water into the motor through the intake and hydro-locking, which necessitates a costly engine re-build. Back out of flooding slowly to minimize the risk of this.

Yea.....that's a Dodge Ram, not a Ford.

@BTPud, Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed it. Before shooting this, I also saw a Ford pickup plow through the water. Guess I didn't get that one on video!
