By Amalie Nash

A 19-year-old unlicensed driver accused of backing his vehicle over a 3-year-old child riding her scooter in Superior Township was arraigned Monday on several charges.

Freddell Emanuel Anderson faces charges of first-degree fleeing and eluding, attempted resisting and obstructing, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and never acquiring a driver's license.

Deputies were flagged down at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday after a driver backed over a 3-year-old girl on her scooter in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard. Deputies saw a vehicle flee the area as they arrived, leading to a short pursuit, a sheriff's summary said.

The vehicle eventually stopped, and Anderson was arrested after a brief struggle, the summary said.

The 3-year old girl was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Anderson's bond was set at 10 percent of $10,000.

@ Top Cat, state and local municipalities! Chicago finally closed Cabrini Green, so why can't we, as a state or several municipalities, shut down this project in Ypsilanti township?

David: The reason that we can stand by and see people "suffer a worse fate than that in Haiti in our own backyard," is because we are too busy meddling in other countries and expending resources on wars that we should not be involved in. Before we go off saving the rest of the world, we should be saving our communities, towns and cities.

"It is time to find alternative housing for the truly poor among us that does not force them to live in such conditions, projects!" Exactly who is supposed to "find" this alternative housing? Who forces people to live there?

Intervention, scattered site housing, anything but this! Arrests are pointless. It is time to find alternative housing for the truly poor among us that does not force them to live in such conditions, projects! MacArthur Boulevard is turning out to be a shooting gallery for cops and thugs alike and the only real victims are poor innocent children. How can we stand by as people suffer a worse fate then those in Haiti, in our very own backyard?

I would really like to hear David's answer to jkselberg question, "Act how?" I have read other posts from David and find him to be a thoughtful & gentle soul.

David, Act how? Arrest everyone on MacArthur Blvd? Change the name of the street? What?

MacArthur Boulevard. MacArthur Boulevard. MacArthur Boulevard. MacArthur Boulevard. MacArthur Boulevard. MacArthur Boulevard. I'm beginning to see a pattern emerge? Maybe it's time to act?

"Never acquiring a driver's license." Now that's just plain lazy. Sure gonna be hard to get one now!

Another scofflaw. When are we going to treat these people as if they're irresponsibly wielding dangerous weapons that they are?
