University of Michigan football player arrested after reported sexual assault

By Lee Higgins

A University of Michigan football player was arrested this morning after a female student reported he sexually assaulted her.

The man was questioned and released as detectives continue to investigate the 2 a.m. incident in the 600 block of South State Street, Ann Arbor police Det. Dave Monroe said.

Police would not release the name of the player today.

Both the man and accuser are 18 years old, Monroe said.

Monroe said this afternoon that the man and woman know each other. He said the incident occurred during a party, but declined to release further details about the allegations.

So far, no charges have been filed. Monroe said detectives are interviewing others, and the case remains under investigation.

Whoever did the crime was totally wrong, but girls, please listen to your mom and not stay out late, that late, in a house full of boys! Who knows what was going on behind the doors, but girls, you got to protect yourself and be smart about your decision.

I am not sure why you would report something that has no basis. Give a name, or do some reporting before you post this. What you have done now is paint the entire team as a sexual assaulter. It isn't like this is some kind of BREAKING NEWS ALERT. Slow down and think of the ramifications.

Everyone cool ur jets down a tab. Until the inverstigation is over, let's not assume anything. If the guilty party found guilty, then he should be prosecuted fully. No, RR isn't responsible for the alleged player outside campus. No one can monitor 85 or so kids. However, the guilty party should dealt with swiftly by RR if found guilty. The rules are set for everyone with no exceptions. Every sports team has few bad apples.

I don't care to denigrate the football team; I don't care to attribute any wrong-doing to RR. All I care about is the truth emerging. If any person did sexually assault this woman, I hope that justice is swift and meaningful. If this didn't happen, I hope he is fully cleared. The football team is meaningless compared to a sexual assault.

Do people not learn from the Duke Lacrosse incident? We don't know what really happened so let's wait for the facts and evidence to surface before jumping to any conclusions.

Although the headlines state that a man was arrested, the story goes on to say that no charges were filed and he was released with more interviews planned. NOT to minimize a rape report, but remember CVS parking lot report? Sounds like they're gathering info at this time. And yes - the Ypsi - AA unfriendly neighborliness gets old.
