The design for the new golf practice facility for both the University of Michigan's men's and women's golf programs was approved by the U-M Board of Regents today.
The $2.5 million, 10,000-square-foot facility was designed by the Ann Arbor Architects Collaborative, also known as A3C. It will be set off South Main Street on the west side of the driving range of the U-M golf course.
At the meeting, A3C's senior principal Daniel Jacobs said the facility will provide year-round practice areas with a putting and chipping area and enough practice bay space to accommodate the men's and women's teams.
It will also have areas allowing video technology for assisting player performance.
In a statement, both U-M's men's golf coach Andrew Sapp and U-M's women's golf coach Cheryl Stacy praised the future facility.
"This facility will be an incredible asset for our players as we prepare each winter for the spring season. We are fortunate to have a wonderful golf course right on campus," Sapp said.
In May, U-M athletic director David Brandon proposed the golf practice facility.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in summer 2011.

As someone in the construction industry I'm thankful for UM.

It'd be easier for readers (and I imagine for the reporter on duty) if you could just write a "regents' meeting round up" summarizing what happened at the meeting rather than 4-5 separate, substance free stories clogging up the site.

The U of M never seems to have a shortage of funds for athletic facilities or coaches!
