The photo with this article reminds me: a big thank-you to the people that spend time cleaning the streets up after accidents. Not a fun job.

I saw it. I called 911. Their were no peds involved and the HAWK signal was not flashing. One car pulled out in front of the other. BAM. End of story. No one hurt. Happens at least once a week on that corner. Usually someone trying to make a quick left from any of the four directions.

It sounds like a perfect example of why it is so dangerous to be a pedestrian or bicyclist.

real traffic lights not the dodo bird lights.

That intersection is infamous for car accidents. I don't know why that city hasn't put lights there yet. I used to live right down the street from there and there was an accident every week of some form or another. that was 20 years ago.

The infamous, so-called "pedestrian hawk" signal may seem like a boon to pedestrians (assuming the cars actually stop... ), but is a bane for drivers on Chapin/3rd St., as it becomes a guessing game as to who should do what after the ped crosses but before the DoDo bird signal stops flashing. I'm sure this isn't the first fender bender there, and it is nothing short of miraculous that some combination of drivers and pedestrians haven't yet perished at that intersection. A simple 4-way Stop sign/signal would be much less ambiguous than that confusing piece of junk, which few people have ever encountered before, outside of A2. I have never seen one elsewhere. Politicians make lousy traffic engineers.

@zags: I have observed that the only thing cynacs are typically good at is complaining.

Cynics also make lousy traffic engineers.

In other news, the sun is forecast to rise tomorrow morning, then set again tomorrow evening...

Well, that was enlightening.

likely no info because we don't want to see any mention of ped crossing (or someone yielding to) being the cause
