Two brothers ordered to stand trial in Freedom Township firebombing case
Two brothers from Washtenaw County are headed to trial for allegedly firebombing a bar in Freedom Township last year.
Joseph Allen Hafner-Canter, 20, and Joshua Hafner-Canter, 19, both waived their rights to a preliminary hearing during brief appearances in district court last week, records show.
They each face two counts of arson of a dwelling, arson of real property and placing explosives near property causing damage at a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 29.
Police said they put a pipe bomb outside the Pleasant Lake Inn on Sept. 11, 2009 after setting fire to a basement hallway. People were inside at the time, but no injuries occurred.
Testimony began in the preliminary hearing for two co-defendants in the same case last week and continued in district court this week, records show.
Joshua Alan McClellan, 23, and Nicholas Casper Kraus, 21, both of Warren face identical charges of arson of a dwelling, arson of real property and placing an explosive device near property, causing damage.
