A fundraiser this week organized by Michigan State Police officials at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase will benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run - Special Olympics of Michigan.

Michigan State Police officials are organizing a comedy show at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run - Special Olympics of Michigan.

The special Cinco de Mayo show, held at 7 p.m. May 5 at 314 E. Liberty St., will benefit the torch run, Michigan State Police Inspector Garth Burnside said Friday. In turn, the proceeds from the run will benefit the Special Olympics of Michigan, he said.

This is the third year Burnside has organized the comedy show. Tickets are $20 and all the money raised from the tickets will go directly to the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics.

Headlining the show is “World’s Funniest Cop” Dwayne Gill. Also appearing are Mike O’Keefe, Brad Wenzel, Julie Lyons and Zach Martina.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is made up of police and corrections officers who work together to raise money for people with intellectual disabilities. The run is the largest grassroots fundraising effort supporting the Special Olympics.

The comedians will perform for free, and the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase agreed to host the event for free in order for all the money raised to go to the toch run, Burnside said.
