Todd's Services owner Todd LaButte found dead in Hamburg Township

By Cindy Heflin

Well-known landscaping company owner Todd LaButte was found dead Tuesday morning, the Daily Press & Argus reported.

The article said LaButte was found at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday in his black sport utility vehicle in the parking lot of Todd's Services, the company he founded with his brother Kurt LaButte.

Hamburg Township Police Chief Steve Luciano told the Press & Argus "The case is under investigation, and all possibilities are being considered, including the possibility his injuries were self-inflicted."

LaButte was remembered as a hard-working man who loved his community and founded Todd's Services Give Back to the Community program as a way to say thank you for the support his business had received over the years. More than 200 nonprofit organizations, including some in Washtenaw County, have received donations through the program, the Press & Argus said.

A family spokesman told the newspaper Todd's Services will continue to operate.

This is a sad sad story. Todd pruned our maple tree himself a few years ago rather than leave it to one of his crew, because he knew that tree meant a lot to us. I'll look at that tree today, just starting to leaf out in the spring sunshine, and think of him.

I realized that is Ms. Heflin, the reporter's standard picture, but having a smiling picture next to a sad death announcement looks very strange and insensitive.

Suicide is never the answer. Todd came from a huge family. I'm sure his death is painful to them and for all who knew him.
