Three men to stand trial this summer in shooting death of Ypsilanti Township man

By Art Aisner

A summer jury trial is set for the three men charged with murder in the slaying death of an Ypsilanti Township father.

James Lester, Keywone Walker and Willie Walker, are scheduled to stand trial together June 13 on open murder and armed robbery and conspiracy charges for the shooting death of Jason Hoover at the Schooner Cove Apartments in Ypsilanti Township.

All three stood mute at a recent pretrial hearing in Washtenaw County Circuit Court and their attorneys entered not guilty pleas on their behalf, court records show.

The suspects, from left: James Daniel Lester, Keywone Jarvis Walker and Willie Edward Walker.

Police said the trio robbed Hoover of cash and drugs on Nov. 6 and shot Hoover once in the chest. Investigators said Willie Walker, 30, fired the shot, that Lester was in the apartment, and that Keywone Walker, also 22, drove their vehicle to and from the scene.

Doctors declared Hoover, 28, dead on arrival at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and records show he was shot once in the heart. He is survived by a girlfriend, who police said witnessed the crime, and a 1-year-old daughter.

All three suspects remain in custody without bond. Art Aisner is a freelance reporter for AnnArbor.com. Reach the news desk at news@annarbor.com or 734-623-2530.

This was my little brother, I hope they get what they deserve and all is finally at rest. I pray for their families, I know that what they did was a personal decision made by the idiots that committed the crime not the people who raised them.
