Third West Nile virus death in Michigan reported
A third person in Michigan has died from West Nile virus, WXYZ reported.
Michigan health officials said an 84-year-old man from Texas living in Wayne County died from the virus, the station reported.
The second death in Michigan from the disease was confirmed Thursday. A Washtenaw County woman was the first person to die from the illness in Michigan this year.
The virus, spread by mosquitoes, can cause a mild to severe illness — including encephalitis or meningitis, which are inflammations of the brain — in humans and animals.
Michigan has had 47 cases of West Nile virus this year, WXYZ reported. Health officials have said it's the worst season for the disease in years.

Apparently they "thrive" in a mild drought such as we've had this year where other mosquito populations are almost nonexistent? They must be undetectable by humans also?
