An SUV was destroyed Thursday morning after a fire consumed the engine compartment, Ann Arbor firefighters say.

Battalion Chief Robert Vogel reported firefighters were sent at 9 a.m. Thursday to the 200 block of Brookridge and found the SUV fully engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly put out, Vogel said.

The vehicle was a total loss, and investigators still are figuring out what caused the blaze, Vogel said. The woman who owns the SUV told firefighters the car had been having mechanical problems.

No one was injured in the fire.

I get the impression from the photo that trees have grown up tall in the area since I ever had any reason to drive through that area. I remember Daniel and Edward Streets, but not Charles or Brookridge. Sounds like no one was in the Jimmy when it ignited. Next it might be a Lexus that ignites, from radio stories I've caught regarding Lexus models being recalled.
