Supporters of Huron teacher on leave expected to attend Ann Arbor school board meeting tonight

By Kyle Feldscher

A Huron High School teacher currently on leave while the district investigates his conduct may see a show of support at tonight's Ann Arbor Board of Education meeting.

A Facebook event page shows more than 70 people are planning to attend the meeting to show support for Chris Mark, who teaches orchestra and other music classes at Huron.

Mark is on indefinite leave pending an investigation, according to district spokeswoman Liz Margolis. Margolis said she could not comment on the circumstances of the investigation due to its legal nature.

“It’s frustrating and I understand a lot of people are asking why he’s off and when he’ll be back,” she said. “This is a hard situation.”

The Facebook event is the latest show of support for Mark from current and former Huron students. An alumnus of the orchestra program created an event asking members to send letters to district officials last week.

Mark did not return e-mails sent to him by AnnArbor.com requesting comment.

Several students who indicated on the Facebook event they plan to attend tonight's meeting declined to comment.
