Some Washtenaw County residents still without power after Thursday's storm

By Tina Reed

About 2,000 Washtenaw County homes - including some on Ann Arbor's west side - are still without power after a powerful line of storms moved across the state early Thursday evening.

About 100,000 people in southeastern Michigan lost power due to the storms, said DTE Energy spokesman Len Singer. This morning, about 70,000 customers were still waiting for their power to be restored, with the bulk of them being in Wayne and Oakland Counties.

Singer said the majority of customers are expected to have their power back by midnight tonight. The company will work through the weekend to get electricity restored to all customers, he said.

The weather is expected to improve today, but the weekend could bring more storms.

According to the National Weather Service, today should bring mostly sunny skies with a breeze and a high near 89 degrees.

On Saturday, there is a 50 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with otherwise mostly cloudy skies and a high near 90 degrees. On Saturday evening, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m.

On Sunday, showers and thunderstorms are likely after 8 a.m., but otherwise, it's expected again to be mostly cloudy with a high near 90 degrees.
