Snow showers possible Thursday in Ann Arbor area

By Cindy Heflin

Snow - the word is in the forecast for the first time this season, but you won’t need a shovel, the National Weather Service says.

Snow, mixed with rain, could start in the early morning hours Thursday.

The forecast calls for a mix of rain and snow Thursday in the Ann Arbor area, but no accumulation is expected said Deb Elliott, a hydrometeorological technician with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township. The rain mixed in with the snow and temperatures above freezing will quickly melt any snow that falls, she said.

The immediate forecast calls for no more snow, but rain is another matter. Showers are possible today through 11 a.m., and Wednesday will bring a 100 percent chance of rain, the weather service said. The high Wednesday will be in the low 60s.

If the snowflakes fall, they’re likely to start in the early morning hours before dawn, Elliott said. We’ll have partly sunny skies during the morning Thursday, then cloudy conditions during the afternoon with a high of 41 to 45. Scattered rain and snow showers are possible. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

I saw the doppler on a just weather site and it looks like Wisconsin and the UP are going to get snow. If things go the way they have been? We won't see snow until xmas. No snow for now.

I say bring it too, but be thankful you guys don't live out in Jackson. Article 2-3 weeks back said they will not plow subdivions or dirt roads (we have a lot in the surrounding area/schools) unless there is 10inches. That's going to be a lot of snow days for the rural areas out here. So if you come out this way, bring a quad or snowmobile.

If some people have their way, the County will be using ancient trucks with minimum wage drivers. They will demand that 1" be removed before they wake.

You can have the best tires on the planet and still hydro plane and skid. Happened to this one lady I know and she totaled her car.

I'm saying that the majority of people drive with ill-equipped cars and complain about the poor roads, when something as simple as snow tires can fix 99% of issues most people experience in winter. Can they change physics? No, but that's not what they are designed for. And yes, I am saying that people who have ill-equipped cars are not taking personal responsibility of being safe in the winter, but rather expect the city/county/state to have perfect roads for them the second it stops snowing. The cost of the tires has nothing to do with it, since nobody should be risking the lives of others because they cannot equip their car properly.

What does personal responsibility have to do with purchasing snow tires? Do you mean that people who do not buy snow tires lack so called "personal responsibility"? Or that personal responsibility is only the realm of those who can afford it? Like health insurance?

Because snow tires can alter physics....... Just like hitting 88mph and 1.21 jigawatts of electricity can make time travel possible with the flux-capaciter.

Or they could take some personal responsibility, purchase snow tires, and be safe all winter.
