Train blocks Six Mile Road in Salem Township

By Kyle Feldscher

A train on the railroad tracks was blocking Six Mile Road between Chubb and Currie roads in Salem Township Thursday morning.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Geoffrey Fox confirmed the road was closed because a train was stopped on the tracks, but he said he did not have more information at 10 a.m. Thursday regarding why the train was stopped.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area for several hours.

Salem Township is northeast of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Just another example of why buses are superior. Buses can detour arround traffic problems, including stopped trains. Trains are stuck on the tracks. No detours. The specific cause information is rarely provided when trains fail. It must always wait until an investigation and the results are rarely published as news, or easy to find.

But this was a CSX train, which means it was a FREIGHT train.

It's not the Great Lakes Central. That's the CSX line between Plymouth and Lansing.

John - I heard scanner traffic indicating they are CSX rails.

No clue why the train was stopped? "Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area for several hours." Unless they are fanciers of "train spotting"

An Arborigine - Fox didn't know when I talked to him, and we haven't heard much come over the scanner about this. It doesn't sound like it's any kind of emergency, other than the train blocking the road. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I'm getting.
